PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY BEFORE CONTINUING ON TO YOUR APPLICATION
- The Greenthread School of Craft Herbalism is a community education program. Upon successful completion, you are not given any specific accreditation, licensing, or professional certification as these do not exist in the herbalism field. You are not guaranteed any job or position of employment in the industry or with any affiliated organizations. We consider folks who successfully complete path three to be competent community herbalists; and encourage lifelong study, learning, and growth.
- This program is tough. We go in deep and cover a lot of ground. In order to maintain your enrollment, please be prepared to complete all homework and reading assignments to honor both your education and the experience of your fellow classmates. If you have learning needs that aren't met by standard presentations, please let us know so we can work together to make things good for you.
- The space we create is radically affirming of the gender spectrum, queerness, anti-racism, differing abilities, community equity, indigenous sovereignty & leadership, and loving people for who they are. We do not allow firearms or weapons of any type in our classes. We are in support of land back actions and reparations to marginalized and persecuted communities. Our classes are taught on the unceded lands of the Shoshone, Paiute, Goshute, Ute, and Navajo nations.
- While the teachings in the program are rooted in Old European Animism and Pan-Celtic lore, the ancestral ways of the program writer, they are open to everyone. We work hard to avoid any appropriative actions and do not share or represent the herbal or magical traditions of ancestries we aren't personally connected to and invested in.
- We do not explore plants that are part of closed traditional practices or those that are overharvested or threatened/endangered. Our curriculum is fiercely anti-appropriative and we work hard to protect the sacred plant ways of other traditions by not representing them.
- No matter where you ancestry is rooted, we are sure you'll find power and inspiration in what we share. There is room here for your voice and the host of ancestors who bless you. Learn more about our tradition of spiritual herbalism <here>.
- Because our paths are filled with the individual healing journeys of the people who make them up, we ask that all students keep sacred what is shared in our sessions. Please do not share what you learn about other students with those outside the program in respect to their journey. We do not share the personal information of any of our volunteer clients.
- Our program is deeply animistic, spiritual, and land-loving in nature. If you aren't comfortable with these topics, this probably isn't the best education option for you. Reach out and we would be happy to help you find other great programs!
- Completing this program does not make you an herbalist. Herbalists of merit put in the work and cultivate relationships with their plant allies and their medicine process; only the herbs can make you an herbalist. We disagree with the term 'master herbalist' and find power in this work because it cannot be mastered. Where there is a master, there is a slave. Students of our program are not accredited, licensed, or entitled to treat, cure, diagnose, or prevent any specific illness as part of our cirriculum.
- Students are expected to give their all during the paths and to support themselves and their fellow classmates in an atmosphere of learning, experience, vulnerability, healing, and magic.
- We have an open door policy. At any time, for any reason, students are encouraged to speak up about how they feel, what they need, what may be frustrating them, how we can better honor and nourish them, and so forth. They can speak with instructors directly, via email, via written note, or via another willing student.
- Please be aware that throughout Path One and especially Path Two we work several meditations, journeyworks, rituals, and ceremonies together. These focus on personal connections, alignments to the seasons, connections to the plant spirits, and acts of magic and medicine. Those who are uncomfortable or who are not connected to nature-based spiritualities, pagan perspectives, animistic perspectives, ritual, ceremony, and the power of magic will like not enjoy our program. Again, reach out and we would love to help you find another great program that suits your needs and interests better.
- There will be days you don't like class, and days you love class. We ask you to put the work in so that you own the work when it's done. Be prepared to be annoyed, enamored, inspired, frustrated, empowered, fatigued, and a host of other feels.
- The information provided in general or directly throughout the program is intended to be educational in nature and is not intended to treat, cure, diagnose, or prevent any specific illness. Talk with your doctor before making changes or adding herbs to your wellness routine.
- Due to ever-looming pandemic concerns, classes will be moved to an online digital platform if needed. Students will be provided with supplies kits and class times and dates will remain the same.
- Start to finish, if you choose to take all three paths and are offered access to them, the total for the program as of March 1, 2022 is $1,700. The course has been priced this way to be as financially accessible as possible to the folks who want to learn. The profit margin on the course after textbooks and materials is as minimal as we can make it while still keeping the program thriving. We are able to extend limited financial support each path for folks who are LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, single parents with dependent children, folks in severe debt, those dealing with the debt and accessibility issues associated with incarceration, and folks with disability. To receive options and availability, please mark the appropriate section on the application. We use the applications to allocate funds for each path and require the hand-raising in advance to allocate those funds before registration.
- If you have questions, please ask them before applying. Submitting an application indicates you understand and agree to what is stated on this page.
Your written application is step one of the process.
If accepted, you will be invited to a zoom or in-person chat with Josh and/or an advanced student (your choice) to answer any questions you may have and to get to know one another better before the class begins. You will also have one required free online course to complete, three free 30ish minute video classes, and a short essay based on the course and class content that will be due before registration opens. Details and registration dates will be sent along with your application review. Please allow 2 weeks for your application to be reviewed.
Guidance from the plant spirits is step two of the process.
Upon successful completion of your written application and interview, a divination will be performed with the patron plant spirits of our tradition. This process must be favorable for continuation. If it is not favorable, details and guidance will be offered.
Registration is the third and final step of the process.
Tuitions are due in full at registration unless otherwise arranged. Due to the nature of the program and the supplies and textbooks we purchase in advance, tuitions are non-refundable and non-transferrable. Registration generally opens 10 weeks before class begins and tuitions are due at this time unless otherwise arranged.
Students will be asked to sign a waiver of liability and understanding at the time of registration.
