A Living Tradition of Spiritual Plant Medicine

The School of Craft Herbalism located in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah was founded by Herbalist and Educator Josh Williams in 2018.
Our year-long curriculum coupled with an optional 3 month in-apothecary clinical apprenticeship is the most in-depth in our area and offers the only complete program in the world focused on magico-medicinal spiritual herbalism rooted in Indo-European & Pan-Celtic lore and practice.

Reality Checks

  • This program is no walk in the park - except for the days we go walk in the park! Sessions are fast-paced and loaded with information, homework is serious, and there's a lot of reading to be done between sessions. We have a lot of fun and get to spend a great deal of time in ritual and meditation- but there's a lot of work to do in order to pass on the herbal wisdom in just one year.
  • As mentioned above, every session includes homework, projects, and reading you will need to do on your own time before the next meeting. Homework and self-study are integral parts to making the whole thing 'click' into place.
  • There is no occupational licensing standard for herbalism- this you will not be a 'certified' or 'licensed' herbalist upon successful completion of this course. You will receive a certificate of completion which recognizes the education and experience you worked for during the program. If you choose to take advantage of the apprenticeship hours you will receive a separate certificate for that.
  • There is no guarantee or promise of employment or career based on this program. Some folks are happy being full-time herbalists and creating their own career path or business around the practice of herbalism, some are not. It's up to you what you do with your education and inspiration- possibilities are endless!
  • You will be challenged, annoyed, and transformed. There will be days you don't want to come to class, days you hate your homework, and days you may dislike me immensely. Like anything, the study of spiritual herbalism causes us to grow, shift, and change and those growing processes can be uncomfortable.
  • There will be some additional costs associated with this program. You may need to purchase herbs, supplies, tools, and supplemental books along the way. Most of this is optional and will be choice-based, but please be aware that your collection of herbs is not included in the course. We try to provide as much as we possibly can along the way and will always help out any student who may not be able to get the items they need.
  • Our program is open to everyone. We work in a queer-affirming, anti-racist, anti-vulture, trauma-informed space and will do our best to accommodate the needs of anyone who wants to attend.
  • This course does not make you an herbalist. I don't have that authority, nor does any other human teacher. You are made an herbalist by your work with the plants, your dedication to being a force for harmony in the world, and by your practice, practice, practice. I can certify that you've put the hours in and filled my heart with joy at your learning and engagement, but only you can choose if you want to go on to become a true, authentic herbalist. My certification is one of completion of requirements.
If you have any questions about the program, please let us know and we'll be happy to help.
